We are a small community of computer enthusiasts, free software and new technologies, all concerned to offer missing services to the web. Thus was born Toile-libre. Subsequently, a long procedure of deposit of statutes was engaged. Six months later, here we are, with a new association, a new team, a new name, and new motivations!
First of all, because in our opinion, the Internet is basically a network where equality between all and freedom must prevail. Therefore, we develop a (small) alternative in this place where the lucrative takes over. What is left of the internet today? A troop of a few competing service providers who compete for market share, offering all the same services, favoring those who are profitable and masking the diversity of internet possibilities. Who is left to host a svn? Who is there for accommodation adapted to his needs (for example on ruby on rails)? Few people. We wish to fight peacefully this space of competition by proposing a free service and/or at low price, whose first goal is to satisfy the user. In addition, we want to make it possible for everyone, regardless of their income, hosting.
We also have the primary desire to keep a certain human side to the relations between hosts and users, insofar as these can not in any case self-host. Here, you are not just a number.
We operate through the personal investment of all members, whether in their time, money or support.
Our services also work thanks to other people. Indeed we use only free software, (the servers work under FreeBSD or Linux, in application we use Lighttpd, Apache, PHP, haproxy, nginx, …), these are the result of the work of a large number of people, in many cases volunteers.
We welcome the volunteers with open arms. Whatever your knowledge and your computer prowess, you can definitely help Toile-libre, so do not hesitate to participate! Of course, if you are satisfied with the service, donations are accepted ;-)
